The Solution
To achieve our vision of having all nonprofits have safe and secure workplaces, charity leaders must recognize the problem, gain access to a solution, and ensure that the solution is both effective and tailored to their culture and specific needs. The Nonprofit Security Project will focus on three key areas to achieve this goal.
Outreach: Nonprofit leaders will be reached via passive and active techniques. We will establish a professional web presence through an informative website and influencer-boosted social media, making our presence known and serving as a consistent resource for nonprofit leaders ready to take the next step. Our team will also reach out individually to nonprofits working in areas likely to be most sensitive to external threats.

Access: To provide nonprofits access to this information, training, and solutions, we will engage in a vigorous and ongoing campaign to fund this project. Charities shouldn’t have to pay market rates for such services, and the expectation that they will is preventing them from even seeking needed physical security. Initially, we expect to offer our service on a materials-only cost basis to fine-tune our offerings and establish a track record necessary to gain institutional support. Then we will seek individual, foundation, and government support to make these services as close to zero as possible for the nonprofits that need them.

Implementation: Too many attempts to address these issues stop at providing advice and pointing people to hire a for-profit company to implement a solution, even though many for-profit companies in the security space neither understand nonprofit culture nor are familiar with their specific needs. We will overcome this barrier by building a team to implement solutions through the Nonprofit Security Project. Our best-in-class security professionals will collaborate with our nonprofit executive teams to develop a suite of services tailored to address the specific needs of nonprofit physical security. Such solutions will include explaining the situation in language that makes sense in charitable settings, training that is comfortable for nonprofit employees, and the latest security materials and installable solutions that deter violence from occurring, quickly provide support in the case of emergencies, and give confidence-boosting action options for nonprofit employees during an incident.
